What is an entry-level kayak good for use on flat water?

I'm looking to get flat water kayaking and want an entry-level model which has a reasonable speed flat water. I only plan to use it on flat water. I am a rower, but I want to get something new, and I imagine some work kayak of the same muscles and cardiovascular system, making it a good cross-training exercise when I can not get to my boat club (which is in my training leg cycling). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kestrel current design, maybe 14 or 16 feet long. http://www.cdkayak.com/products/template/product_detail.php?IID=183&SID=ef61115f5cfce967be8b6424d1973e2d
